The Welsh Wheelchair Rugby Association
In
1997 the Welsh Wheelchair Rugby Association was founded as a charity (Registered
Charity number: 1090676). It exists to promote and develop the sport of
Wheelchair Rugby throughout the Principality of Wales.
In 2001 several development sessions were run in Wrexham which attracted
new players; a new team "the Wrexham Raiders" was formed. For
a few years the group had regular training sessions but now has sadly
dispanded; although some of the players still play with the Cardiff Pirates.
In
1999 the WWRA were successful in it's application to join the Federation
of Sports Association for Disabled People; thus securing regular development
funding for the sport in Wales. Membership of the Federation provides
club members in Wales with access to a wealth of information, approved
facilities at reduced rates and further services such as insurance and
tournament support.
There is now a new team that has been created in North Wales; the Welsh
Dragons. They train in Wrexham on Friday evenings - Welsh
Dragons.
