Wheelchair Rugby is played on a standard basketball court using a volleyball.
There is a goal at each end of the court measuring 8 meters across. To
score a goal a player must get two wheels over the goal line with the
ball under control, either in the player’s hands, or on their lap.
There
are four players on a team of varying classification. The player that
is carrying the ball must bounce or pass it every 10 seconds. The team
are given 15 seconds to get out of their own half. Once in the oppositions
half they must not go back into their own half with the ball. There is
then no time limit to score the goal, but any player can only enter the
key in front of the goal for 10 seconds; this is an area 1.75 meters in
front of the goal.
The
opposition attempt to gain possession of the ball, block attacks on goal
and force errors from the attacking players. Most chair to chair contact
is allowed, but no person to person contact is permitted.
The game consists of four, 8 minute quarters; the clock stops whenever
the ball is deemed out of play.
